Calgary Go Club participated to 2010 Chinatown street festival. It was a huge successful event. We had fun time and drew a lot of folks to our tent.

It's almost May long weekend, and that means it's time for Otafest 2010. We will once again be hosting a Go room at the festival to play some games and teach newcomers.

Whether you know how to play or not, feel free to drop by the Go rooms. You can either learn to play, or help teach, or both!

The 2010 Alberta Open Go Tournament has concluded, and here are the results!

That's quite a few winners from out of town, so next year the Calgary players will have to improve their games!

Alberta Open Go Tournament 2010



When: May 15-16, 2010

Where: The Centre for Newcomers, 125-920 36 Street NE. Calgary, Alberta
Time: Doors open at 9:00 am. Games start at 9:30 am



Divisions:

Divisions Entry Fees

A: 4 dan up $25.00

B: 1 dan - 3 dan $25.00

C: 5 kyu - 1 kyu $25.00

D: 10 kyu - 6 kyu $25.00

E: beginning - 11 kyu $25.00



*Divisions and rounds are subject to change depending on registrations.
Format: Main event - Swiss-McMahon.

Main Event - Time - 45 min each, Byo Yomi - 25 stones in 10 min. Komi 6.

5 rounds match. But final rounds depend on registration.

Referee: Mr. Zhang Zhongyong, Mr. Zhang Minyu



Prizes: Great prizes!!! Any event with 6 or more entries will have a runner-up prize.



Grand cash prize $100 for champion of open group (group A)

Food: Entry fee includes Sat. Lunch, teas, coffee, juice, Sunday snacks.


Banquet: A Chinese style 8-10 course banquet is held on Saturday night (May 15) at 7:00 p.m. for $35.00 per person (includes tax). Location to be announced.

This is a reminder to everyone that the club is moving! Don't worry, it's not far from the old location at Dragon City. The address above has been updated with the new location, and is effective as of the next meeting on Dec 20. The meeting time has not changed.

See you all at the new location! We should find ourselves with more space and storage to use.

The beginner lecture series we have hosted over the last several weeks is winding down, and it's been a great success! Many children showed up to learn the rules, although several grown-ups also took the opportunity to learn about the game.
